How to Measure for your window blinds

how to measure

One of the most important aspects of ordering blinds is how to measure & fit properly. Full fitting instructions are included with our blinds.

Measuring for your blinds is extremely important and can be quite critical. There is nothing more frustrating than taking the time to order your blinds, waiting for them to arrive and then finding that they don't fit properly. We do everything possible to ensure that your blinds arrive to you at the correct size.

Below are illustrations on how to measure for your blinds.

MEASURING FOR ALL BLINDS - RECESS & BLIND SIZING

(EXCEPT PERFECT FIT, SEE BELOW FOR MEASURING FOR PERFECT FIT BLINDS)

The easiest way to measure for your blinds is inside the recess, measure the width across the top of the recess and the drop from left, right and the middle, the shortest drop is the your measurement. That is your recess size and we will make the necessary allowances.

If you are measuring outside the recess or existing blinds, tell us the exact size you want your blind to be and call that blind size.

MEASURING FOR PERFECT FIT BLINDS

  • Before you begin, ensure there is a clearance of 6mm all around the outside of your window beading to allow enough room for the Perfect Fit
  • Measure the width and the drop of your glass size accurately. We recommend that you measure in both corners and the middle of your window and use the smallest size taken (fig 2 & fig 3)
  • Measure the depth of the window beading - Fig 1 below shows an internal corner section of a uPVC window and illustrates how to measure the bead depth.  This gives you the measurement from the face of the window frame to the glass (this is normally 20mm/24mm) and will determine the size of the window fixing brackets to be supplied (fig 4).

HINTS & TIPS FOR MEASURING

  • If you are measuring for Roller Blinds on doors then first you have to remember that your brackets will protrude by about 2 1/2 inches so if your door opens onto a wall you will not be able to open your door fully. When measuring doors, measure the glass area to be covered, and call that your cloth size. With Roller Blinds the actual size of the blind including fittings & brackets will be about 1 3/4 inches wider than the cloth.
  • When measuring windows for Venetian Blinds with tiles at the bottom, take the inside measurement of the tiles and call that your recess size.
  • If you have protruding handles on your windows and are face fixing the blinds then you may require extention brackets with your order.
